In collaboration with STRABAG Belgium and Bouwbedrijf Keulen H., Reijrink Skellet BV delivered a landmark project for GRL Glass Recycling & Logistics in Beringen (BE). This project not only showcases the strength of innovative construction methods but also highlights the importance of sustainability within the modern building industry. The objective was to design an environmentally friendly and efficient structure that met the client’s high standards in both functionality and aesthetics. With the future in mind, the circular steel building system from Skellet NV was chosen, offering significant reductions in CO₂ emissions and material use through its high level of reusability.
The industrial project at GRL Glass Recycling & Logistics presented several technical challenges. On one hand, the facility needed to be strong enough to support heavy industrial processes; on the other hand, sustainability was a top priority, as the project aimed to reduce the ecological footprint of the site. The assignment was clear: create a future-proof structure that supports the company’s long-term environmental goals.
The final design features a modern steel structure, with flexibility and modularity at its core. The choice for a steel system made it possible to achieve large spans without the need for heavy load-bearing walls or numerous support columns. This results in an efficient, open interior space—crucial for GRL’s industrial operations. The circular nature of the building, in which materials can be reused and environmental impact is minimized, was a guiding principle throughout the entire project.
